Anhangá (The Devil)

A Native spirit of the Brazilian forests, able to manifest in many forms mainly as a white deer with red eyes and (later) a cross on its forehead. It was a guardian of the forest and its animals. With the arrival of the Catholic Church it became associated with the figure of the Devil, based on the etimology of the word Anhangá (old spirit) and the word Anhanguera (old devil).
